Minugu Taare – Kalpana
Renowned actress of Kannada silver screen is Kalpana. She is lovingly called as ‘Minnugu Taare' by her fans.
Kalpana’s film career spans less than two decades in Kannada Film Industry. She started her film career in 1963 with the film Saaku Magalu. The other roles in which she became popular are Sharapanjara, Belli Moda, Eradu Kanasu, Kappu Belupu, Bayali Dari and Bangarada Hoovu.
The favorite heroine of Puttana Kanagal, the ace director of 1960s he groomed her into the finest heroines of the time.
South Canara was the birth place of Kalpana. Her original name was Sharat Lata. Tulu was her mother tongue.
Kalpana was a fashion icon of her times. Her elegance, taste and sophistication in dressing could not be matched by other female stars of her time. The mega sleeve blouses, frill blouses are her contribution to Karnataka’s style. Some of her fashion statements are big ear rings, big rings in the hand, brocade silk saris, chiffon saris and long necklaces.
Kalpana died a tragic death by homicide. She swallowed a diamond and met her death in Belgaum. She was heartbroken due to the man she loved.
